BENEATH THE RAIN
I love it when you come again
My intermittent friend
- You always come along
And make my day
I know to others you are dreary
And make them feel so weary
But despite that
I still love you, all the same
Every time you come to me
You evoke a chain of memories
Like holding hands with Chris
In the twelfth grade
We ran through you in the dark
Seeking shelter at the park
Soaked and laughing we
Made out where it was safe
Or hiking along a cliff
Pacific ocean to my left
Hunting mushrooms,
- Found chanterelles
You'd made that day
Or that time, more recently
Atop Mount Lemmon – came to me
Nowhere to hide
So we walked through you
Anyway
Now I've a favor - to ask of you
As you pass by as great monsoons
Could you show up for me
Later on today?
Nine or ten this evening
Earlier or later, anything
Because tonight is epiphany
(We have a date)
And should everything go well
It would be nice to tell the tale
Of how love
Had cast it's spell
Beneath the rain
