BEAUTIFUL
Life is a gift
Often wasted on the gifted
For they know not what they do
They miss the moments
Lost in their perspectives
Washed away in "I" and "You"
They miss the way
The mirror faces
Looks back at "just the same"
Never once seeing
All that they've wasted
In hopes of what's to gain
Petty and cruel
The mirror twisted
Contorts a single place
Lost to life
In their reflection
Sad sick and twisted face
The ego is a climbing vine
Overcomes and seeks to strangle
All that it surveys
All that it admires
It destroys from every angle
The child burgeoning from within
Betrays the now adult
Convinced that every problem
- Is someone else's fault!
To hide from this
It mows us over
Seeks to squash what it desires
Instead of eager supplication
It demands what it requires!
Dead. Deafening and one-way street
The victim is the predator
She slays what she pretends to greet
Only just to get ahead of her!
This ramp becomes a sharp incline
And nothing left can force it
'Til the startled prey awakens
And can manage to divorce it!
But then next again
It repeats itself
It's cause is lost yet dutiful
It reaches out
And destroys again
What it's found
As something beautiful
